Learners & Pedagogy cover

`This presents a useful model for conceptualizing pedagogy as professional knowledge, well supported by selected readings′ - Dr A Loveless, University of Brighton

`This book makes a plea for recreating thinking about knowledge, learning and pedagogy in the context of challenges posed by change - both cultural and technological. Bruner emphasizes that in coming to know, our own knowledge needs to be worked on and transformed, assisted by the toolhouse that is culture. This collection stands as a rich resource from which to exercise our thoughts and reflect on our activities as educators′ - British Educational Research Journal

This textbook looks at the relationship between views of learning, learners, knowledge and pedagogy. Worldwide, education is being subjected to a succession of policy initiatives and political interventions. Questions of what should be taught, and how, are subjects of constant debate, seldom based on research findings or theoretical principles. The articles in this volume have been chosen to show how theories can provide frameworks for analysing pedagogy and to create a dialogue about new possibilities for advancing practice.

Learners and Pedagogy is a Course Reader for The Open University course E836 Learning Curriculum and Assessment.

This book supplements and reinforces our knowledge of learners and Pedagogy very well. -- Dr Seidu Salifu * drupal *
Thus book is highly recommended in reading. Helps link learning to own knowledge and experiences. This book also helps to reflect on own experience and approaches. -- Miss Mehjabeen Shaukat * drupal *
Excellent resource for all those researching pedagogy in general. -- Miss Syreeta Charles-Cole * drupal *
An important read for students looking to gain a wide grounding in pedagogy. It allows my physical education students an opportunity to apply theories of teaching, learning and curriculum to their discipline. A good foundation upon which to build their thinking about theory and acknowledge where their beliefs fit in. -- Mr Alan Thomson * drupal *
This text will support the development of understanding within the educative function of supervision which is a growing area of expertise within the profession. However it might prove a little too detailed for this and would undoubtedly appeal to anyone, who as the already defined target readership, are undertaking an MA in educational studies, as incidentally I currently am. Having said this I will recommend the book to every student I work with who may in any way have an educative role with another person, and that means every student on every course I teach. -- Mr Andrew Thorne * drupal *
A very comprehensive textbook, and the speed of delivery was outstadning. I would be sure to let learners know about this book but feel that it′s just not the most appropriate. Having said that for any student wishing to further develop their understadning surrounding a pedagogy (or not) for education this is well worth the read! -- Mr Graeme Athey * drupal *
