Working in a signature process of painting in reverse on acrylic sheets, scraping off the resulting “skins” of oil paint, and collaging them onto canvas, Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero has intertwined the act of painting with the act of remembering. This book focuses on his recent work—a turn to figuration that builds on the formal experimentation of his early abstract painting—documenting exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth in 2022, 2023, and 2024 alongside contemporaneous works and culminating in his 2026 exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Somerset.
